Service Description
Date: 4/25/26 Address: 1060 W Main St, Stoughton WI 53589 "Studio 12". Located in the strip mall across from dollar general. The last suite. Timeframe: 11-4pm Birth photography is about telling a story. So let's learn how to tell that story. In this workshop you will learn: * How to use angles to draw focus where you want it. * How to work with low lighting * How to use a flash at births/settings * Where to stand * What birth can look like * What you should document during a birth session * How to document without disrupting the vibe * How to document in small spaces (bathroom etc) * How to document labor, birth, and postpartum This birth workshop will have two different mock birth sets. One set will be showing what a home birth newborn exam looks like, and the other will be a mock labor in low lighting. The goal of the workshop is to gain experience documenting these types of situations while also having the photographs to use as needed for your business. This workshop is great for anyone looking to elevate their birth photography, whether you have shot births before or not. Timeline: 11:00-11:30- Welcome/ arrive at studio 11:30-12:30- 1st model set- postpartum newborn exam 12:30-1:00- Discussion 1:00-1:30-Lunch/ Snacks (sandwiches and snacks provided) 1:30-2:30- 2nd model set- active labor in low lighting 2:30-3:30- Slideshow of documenting the moment of birth 3:30-4- Discussion 1st set of models will be doing a mock home birth newborn exam. After a home birth, the midwife does the newborn exam right on the bed with mom. So that is what we are going to simulate. - Our midwife will be doing charting, measuring baby, weighing baby, checking baby over, a placenta tour, etc. -Mom will be doing skin to skin, breastfeeding, eating while holding baby, etc. -This will be near some big windows with natural daylight. 2nd set of models will be doing a mock active labor. This is often the hardest part about documenting birth, so we are going to practice this alot. -Mom and partner will be working through different labor moves (swaying holding onto partner, hands and knees, bouncing on a birth ball, squatting, etc) in three different places. A bed, around the bed, and in a birth pool. -Lowlight/ dark setting/ flash - We will be practicing using our flash in this part. This is often the hardest part about documenting birth, so we are going to practice this a lot. -Small spaces - we will practice in a small bathroom as well.
